Deco Automotive, located in Rexdale and Brampton, Ontario is an automotive parts manufacturing facility that produces structural automotive components for Original Equipment Manufacturers ("OEM") including BMW, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and Toyota/Lexus. Role Summary
The product engineer will work with Deco Cross functional team and Cosma Engineering resources to resolve manufacturability concerns, develop cost savings opportunities through design / specification changes and be an active participant in the engineering team with the goal of flawless program launches.
Key Responsibilities• Work with Deco engineering and quality team members to validate customer drawings and specifications can be supported with proposed manufacturing process and materials.
• Lead communication between customer and Cosma engineering groups and ensures all product requirements are met.
• Stays up to date with customer requirements and ensures Deco remains compliant.
• Understands relationship between product design changes and impact to manufacturing processes
• Leads DFMEA, design validation, and process validation stages in program launch and maintains results for future reference.
• Lead prototype requirements if required by program
• Develop validation test plans for new launches and engineering changes
• Support purchasing by developing RFQ requirements and evaluation of supplier quotes for new business opportunities and engineering changes.
• Interact effectively with customers and suppliers
• Lead cross functional team in VAVE activities
• Be a driver in the ECN process by ensuring a timely and robust response to customer.
• Lead warranty management with respect to part design issues
• Domestic and International travel required to support supplier and customer activities.
• IATF awareness and adherence
• ISO14001 awareness and adherence
• Work within the guidelines of the Deco Employee Handbook
• Any other requests deemed reasonable by Deco Automotive management
SAFETY PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Adheres to the requirements of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and the regulations
• Strong commitment to work place safety, which includes but is not limited to: use of personal protective equipment, maintains proper housekeeping, and recognizes and amends unsafe work conditions.
• Engineering Degree required
• 3 to 5 years' experience in product development
• Ability to develop, apply and interpret GD&T
• Knowledge of aluminum and steel material specifications
• Knowledge of customer specific requirements for Ford, GM, Toyota and Stellantis
• Experience in developing and tracking program validation plans
• Knowledge in Stamping, CNC Bending, Hydroforming, Laser cutting, CNC Machining, E-Coating, casting, extrusion, and Steele and Aluminum Welding an asset
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
