Machine Learning and Data Science applications under the Grainger Technology Group (GTG) spans E-commerce Search, Recommender Systems, Information Retrieval Systems and Visual Search. Projects often encompass research, problem solving, model development, testing, scaling, and implementing them in production. As a Data Scientist at Grainger Canada, belonging to the Search and Information Retrieval Team the candidate will be working on some of the organization's most important priorities for the next few years. The candidate will help develop machine learning & deep learning models, build robust, real-time service APIs that go towards building world class ML solutions in the MRO space.
Responsibilities
- Build ML APIs that are robust, interoperable, and scalable.
- Deploy and maintain ML endpoints that perform/solve business critical functions/problems
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, UX, and Data Science teams to shape rigorous ML solutions
- Support your team in creating analyses that tell a story focused on insights, not just data
- Engage with many parts of the organization to expand the adoption of key metrics (like conversion) across multiple dimensions of analytics to help us realize improved business outcomes
- Be recognized as Data Science SME for Grainger Canada in DS processes and algorithms
- Partner with engineering to drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources
- Communicate with stakeholders on timelines and deliverable, attend cross functional calls to resolve implementation issues
Requirements
- Strong SQL skills and Python proficiency
- Solid understanding of model training methodology, ML foundations and the model improvement lifecycle. (Measuring drift, performing data augmentation and model refreshes)
- 3+ yrs. experience working with and analyzing large datasets to solve problems
- Experience building ML APIs that can handle >100 requests per second
- MS in a quantitative field (e.g., Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics)
- Strong working knowledge of REST (Representational State Transfer) APIs, Git, Bash Scripting, Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS (Amazon Web Services)
- Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manneris
